Hair length - You need some hair growth for the wax to hold onto, we recommend 1/4 of an inch. That is about 2 - 3 weeks of growth after shaving.
Exfoliate - While the skin on the face is generally exfoliated enough in terms of waxing, the body needs a little help. A somewhat gritty body scrub will help rid dead cells around skin pores and hair follicles, providing an easier exit. Shower and lightly exfoliate before your appointment using warm, not hot water.
Regrowth- Because of hair growth cycles, sometimes the very first wax may already grow some stubble after a few days. It's not the waxed hair, but another cycle that was still in the skin during waxing. While it's usually a minimal amount, for smoother results wax twice before an event or vacation.
In the first 24-48 hours you may experience some sensitivity like redness or irritation in the area that was treated. These are normal and usually there is less reaction the longer you wax. Here are some tips to follow during the first 48 hours after waxing:
Do not use any exfoliating products, especially ones containing acids, since they might further irritate your skin.
Do not expose treated area to ultra-violet rays indoor or outdoor. For your own protection always wear sunscreen.
Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours.
Resist touching freshly waxed skin, especially on the face, as this may encourage irritation and some breakouts.
To avoid ingrown hair exfoliate waxed area (starting 48 hours after treatment) 2 - 3 times a week to remove dead skin cells.
EXFOLIATE. EXFOLIATE. EXFOLIATE. Pre-session exfoliation is the first step to achieving flawless spray tanning results. It is best to clear away dry, dead skin cells with a sulfate-free scrub.
Avoid using bar soaps, high pH shower products or in-shower moisturizers. Be sure to complete any waxing, shaving or use of depilatory creams no later than 24 hours prior to your session.
As you prepare for your Norvell sunless tan, be sure to wear loose fitting, dark clothing and no jewelry. Tight clothing can run or smear bronzers, especially around the knees, elbows, chest and waist.
Don't create a sunless barrier by applying anything to the skin. Avoid applying lotions, creams or perfumes prior to your session. Even use deodorant sparingly. Don't wear any makeup to your sunless tan appointment, if unavoidable, remove prior to your spray tan.
Refrain from showering as long as possible, ideally for 24 hours. As with all DHA products, sunless color begins showing development approximately 4 hours post application and continues to darken for up to 24 hours. If you must shower before the 24 hours has lapsed, do so using a warm water rinse only. The use of soap can inhibit full development of DHA. Never fear, cosmetic surface bronzers will wash away during the first shower. Note: Chlorine can cause premature fading of sunless results.
The longevity of a sunless tan depends on the type of self-tanning application, the skin's natural exfoliation process, and on the skincare regimen followed before and after application. On average, a professional application will last 5 - 7 days. The "life span" of a sunless tan also depends on your skin's natural exfoliation. The faster your skin turns over, the faster the sunless tan will fade. The tan created by the DHA affects only the top layer of the skin and will begin to fade after 4 to 5 days as the skin naturally begins to exfoliate.
